DIY: Tissue Paper Pom Poms

I absolutely loveeee these.

I've been wanting to make a few since I saw them on Pinterest a couple months ago.

I didn't have all the materials that the original tutorial called for, so I modified it and used things I already had.

You will need:
- 8 sheets of tissue paper (feel free to use more if you want fuller pom poms)
- a spool of thread
- thumbtacks
- a rubber band
- scissors

Step 1:

Before you start making your pom pom, it's important that you
lay out the string you need to hang it.
Decide how long you want your string to be,
double it,
and then tie it at the ends.
(not planning to hang your pom poms? skip this step!)

Step 2:
Stack your tissue paper, alternating colors.
(ex: blue, green, blue, green, ect.)

Step 3:
Position your paper stack so that the pre-made folds are horizontal.
If your paper has no folds or has fold going in different directions, you can ignore this step.

Step 4:
 Start folding your paper.
Remember making paper fans when you were little?
It's exactly like that.
Fold about an inch of the paper horizontally upward, then flip the stack over and do the same on the other side.
Continue until you reach the top of the stack.

^^ It will look something like this.

Step 5:
Take your rubber band and position in the center of the folded stack.
Not gonna lie, this part is kind of a bitch.
The easiest way to do it is to use one hand to stretch the rubber band as far as you can and use the other hand to feed the tissue paper through.

Step 6:
Take your string and thread it through the rubber band.

Step 7:
Cut the ends of the stack.
I chose to make points at the ends, but you can cut rounded ends or some other design.
Whatever you would like :)

^^ mine looked like this

Step 8:
Fan out both sides of the stack.

Step 9:
One layer at a time, separate the tissue paper sheets from the rest of the fan.
Bunch them together to create the sides of your pom pom.

Step 10:
After you've separated half of the sheets, turn the pom pom over and separate the rest.
So if you used 8 sheets, separate 4, flip the pom and pull apart the other 4.
This is ensure that your pom pom has a good circular shape.

And then you're done!

Use the thumbtacks to attach the string to the ceiling and enjoy your handy work! :)

Great for parties, holidays or just adding a little color to your home.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
See you next time lovelys! :)
