Ear Candy: Maroon5

hello lovelys :)

just wanted to pop in with a new favorite.

"Payphone" ft. Wiz Khalifa by Maroon5

This song has been stuck in my head for the last 2 days.
I heard it awhile ago but I didn't really LISTEN to it until this last week.
And then I watched the video and loved it even more.

Hope you enjoy it too :)

Movie Time: The Expendables 2

The Expendables 2

As I'm sure you've already heard,
I love movies.
I have moments were I am picky, but I'm never biased
(unless Kristen Stewart is involved).
I can appreciate a movie with any cast,
any genre, any budget, in any language (as long as there's subtitles;),
as long as it's a good story with a believable cast that can keep my attention.

Why do I tell you this?
Because I LOVE action movies.
I always have.
So when I saw the ad for The Expendables in 2010, I was MORE than excited.

For those who don't know,
The Expendables was a film straight from the minds of David Callaham & Sylvester Stallone.
It was one of the most anticipated action movies in the last decade.
Why?
The action star studded cast.
Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, with Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, & Arnold Schwarzenegger.
So... yeah :)

The movie is about a group of mercenaries who are assigned to take down a dictator in South America only to find that a group of Americans are the real cause of the conflict.
Lots of booms and bangs, you know the drill.

I was SO excited.
But sadly, I didn't get a chance to go see it in theaters, and by the time I had the chance it was too late.
But according to all of my friends who had seen it, it was HORRIBLE, so I wasn't missing out.
They said it was cheesy, and just a bunch of washed up actors blowing shit up.
By the time it had come out on DVD, I had lost all interest in watching it.
I'm not proud of this folks, but you can only hear that a movie is shit so many times before you tear down the expectations you had in your head.

The sequel came out about a month ago and one of my friends (a fellow cinefile) really wanted to see it.
I told him that I hadn't seen the first one and that I didn't like seeing sequels
without seeing the original (OCD thing I guess).
So thanks to my friend's persistence and the convenience of Netflix,
we watched The Expendables.

And I loved it.
Yes, it was cheesy.
Yes, Sylvester Stallone looks like he has had more botched plastic surgery
than any woman I've ever seen.
But it was okay, because they knew that.
They made jokes about it through the movie, and by acknowledging the cheese and making fun of the fact that this movie is ridiculous, it made it amazing.

Later that night we went and saw the second one.
And it was EVEN BETTER.

Action from start to finish, and humor all throughout.

What I liked more about this one is it was deeper than the first one.
I would elaborate but I don't want to give anything away.
Let's just say that in this one, there's personal reasons behind their work, not just to be the heroes.

Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris join the cast
to add even more awesomeness to this sequel.
(they may or may not have made a Chuck Norris joke in the movie, I cannot deny or confirm;)
AND
Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are in the movie for longer than a minute,
which was HUGE for me.

And I was really happy with the transition between directors and writers.
Most of the time, there is a very drastic difference between films when they are made by different people.
But not in this one, they did a GREAT job of keeping the original themes and styles.

My only complaint is, like the first one, the storyline is a little sloppy.
People just kind of show up without a lot of explanation as to how or why.
But, again, that's an action movie for you.

^^one of my favorite scenes :)

Can't wait for the third one!

OVERALL:

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
See you next time :)

Hogwarts Mug

hey loves
how are you on this marvelous Monday?
Just wanted to pop in and show off my latest Color-Me-Mine project.

It's a giant coffee mug (or a bowl for some awesome people...) with the Hogwarts Crest.

I have to admit, this didn't turn out EXACTLY as I was hoping.
It actually looks really REALLY amateur.
But I still love it :)

On the back it says:
"Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home."
a quote from the amazing Ms. Rowling herself :)

Until next time lovers!

Galaxy Manicure

howdy partners :)
(ugh, never again I swear)

This isn't my first time doing this one.
But it is BY FAR one of my favorites.
It's so easy and it looks so pretty once it's completed.

I used a make-up sponge with turquoise, black, a clear glitter polish and a hot pink.
(optional: a silver shimmer polish)

Start with a coat of black polish.
No need for an extra coat, it'll be covered in a second.
It's just a background color.

Next,
take your make-up sponge and sponge on the turquoise, applying as many layers as needed.
After you get the desired turquoise shade, do the same with the pink, blending them together.

Here's the optional part:
BEFORE sponging on the turquoise and pink, I sponged on a light layer of silver shimmer.
Why?
Because I am WAY to impatient to do layer after layer of the other colors.
That's what I did the first time.
This time, I did the silver, and only had to apply one layer of turquoise and pink.
Not to mention it added a nice shimmery background instead of a flat one.
But keep in mind this isn't absolutely necessary, its just a little short cut.

After the pink and turquoise are blended together, add 2 layers of glitter polish to incorporate the stars.

And viola!

I hope you liked this week's mani!
see you next time :)

Birthday Nightmare

as menacing as the title sounds...
this is a happy post :)

I don't think I've ever mentioned it on here before, but here it is:
I LOVE Color Me Mine.

For those who aren't "in the know" about this (I wasn't until I moved to Virginia),
Color Me Mine is a "paint it yourself" ceramic studio.
And apparently they are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Basically, you pay money to paint your own shit;
and it's BRILLIANT.

I've already shown you my dad's Father's Day Gift,
and today I'm going to show you my latest (and in my opinion, greatest;)

This is the mug I made for one of my friend's birthdays.
It's inspired by "The Nightmare Before Christmas", one of his favorite movies.

This was by far one of my favorite projects because there was almost no
premeditation.
I had a basic idea of what I wanted and just went with what I felt.
And I LOVE "The Nightmare Before Christmas",
so it didn't take long for inspiration to come.

Shields (my friend) is lucky I love him because I was half tempted to just keep it for myself.
:)

Since I'm a serial Color-Me-Mine-er,
I'm sure this won't be the last piece you see on here.
Until next time my lovelys ;)

DIY: Mercury Glass

Greetings & Salutations!

Sorry, but I feel like I always open these the same way.
Thought I'd mix it up a bit ;)

ANYWAY!
A couple months ago I found a tutorial on how to create your own Mercury Glass.

To be totally honest, I didn't really know what mercury glass was.
But I really liked the final product so I decided to give it a whirl :)

You will need:
- Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint (Amazon or Michael's)
- something to paint (a vase, candlesticks, anything glass)
- spray bottle
- water
- white vinegar
- paper towels
- something to cover the painting area (trash bag, newspaper, plastic sheeting, ect.)

**Don't worry, you don't need a dope ass green sheet, that's just an awesome picture background ;)**

Step 1:

Cover the area with your trash bag (or whatever).
You'd think this would be common sense, but some people (me, for example...) get a little over eager and skip this step and have to deal with paint stains later on.
Step 2:

Paint your item.
Use fast little spurts, or the paint will pool and run down the side.
All you need is a thin layer.
Also, the paint comes out as a cool silver color, but as it dries it looks more like a mirror.

Step 3:

Quickly, before the paint dries,
spritz on a water and vinegar mixture (half & half).
Again, no need to soak your item, quick little spurts on mist mode.
If you drench the thing, the water will run and take all the paint with it.

Step 4:

Let the droplets sit for a minute.
Be careful not to touch it during this process, or the paint will come off onto your
fingers and leave bare glass underneath.

Step 5:

After a few minutes,
GENTLY pop the water bubbles with a paper towel.

Put the objects somewhere to dry and VIOLA!

Such a fun and pretty outcome :)

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial,
if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Ear Candy: Karmin & Diego Boneta

It's been a while...

So I have two songs.

Song 1:

"Hello" by Karmin

Weirdest thing.
I was just messing around on Pinterest (typical) when I came across a hair styling tutorial.
I was like "why yes, I would love to learn to curl my hair that way.",
and it took me to the Karmin youtube page.

I loved her tutorial and her personality so much that I decided to check out her music
and fell in LOVE with this song.
(just goes to show you, talented citizens of the world, you could be the greatest thing ever but if you're a dick nobody's going to like you.)

I was actually really surprised that I liked this song because I'm not huge into female rappers.
To be totally honest, I don't really like rap at all.
But for some reason, lady rappers annoy the fuck out of me.
But I actually really like her.
I think it's because her personality shines through.

Song 2:

"Simpre Tu" by Diego Boneta

Not gonna lie folks,
I think he is a-goddamed-dorable.

I first saw him on Rock of Ages
(great movie by the way; funny, heartwarming, and it's a musical!)
And then I saw him again on a few old episodes of Pretty Little Liars.

He's actually a really good actor.
Not to mention he has a smile that will melt your heart.

The song isn't exactly deep, but it's fun and upbeat,
and he really does have a beautiful voice (it matches his face ;)

Enjoy :)

D of C

long time no see!
Which, I'll admit, is utterly and completely, one hundred and ten percent my fault.
But don't hate me just yet, I have a good excuse!

Everyone, meet Kelsie.

As I've mentioned before, I'm originally from the state of Washington.
(and no, it doesn't rain all the time)
I moved to Virginia about a year ago right after
(literally like 2 days after)
my wedding.

Kelsie was my Maid of Honor.

She's awesome, one of the best friends I've ever had.

AND GUESS WHO CAME TO VISIT ME THIS WEEK?!

YAY!
She had never been to the east coast before,
and neither of us had been to Washington DC, so we made a week of it :)

Oh, and guys, I dunno if I've mentioned this before...
American History is one of my favorite things in the entire world.
It's like crack to me.
So needless to say, we had an INCREDIBLE time.

 The best part,
I got to see Abe.
=D

So, again, I am very sorry that I have been AWOL for the last couple weeks.
I was off having an incredible adventure.
DC is now officially one of my favorite places EVER.
I hope you can forgive me :)

Night loves.
