30 Day Photo Challenge: Something Scary

Day 13:
a picture of something that terrifies you

There are plenty of things I'm afraid of:
Spiders.
Snakes.
FUCKING COCKROACHES.
Pretty much just bugs in general.
My teeth falling out.
Tiny (and I mean tiny) cramped spaces.
Losing my loved ones.
In all honesty, that one^^ is by far the biggest one.

But in the spirit of keeping this topical, I'm going to talk about something that's been a bother most lately.

I've noticed that I've been more and more afraid of social interactions lately.
Not that I'm anti-social or anything (seriously, try to shut me up), I just am much more aware of what I'm saying and trying to avoid any sort of embarrassment.

It's so weird.
When I was in high school I couldn't care less about embarrassing myself. In fact, the whole time I was living in Washington I didn't give a fuck. But since I've moved to Virginia, it's like every new interaction is stressful for the first few minutes. I am terrified making a bad impression, and I don't know why...

I suppose it's just the fact that, even though this place has been my home for nearly 2 and half years (holy crap), I'm still not completely myself here. Back home it was all the same people and all the same places for 20 years.

Shit, I hope it doesn't take that long to get my groove here ;)

See you later :)

30 Day Photo Challenge: Big Ticket Item

Day 12:
a picture of the most expensive thing you own

**I decided to exclude the obvious, like my computer, our bed, stuff like that**

Yes, yes, I'm a day late with this one (sorry!), but I have a good reason.
I was making Conversation Cookies for my work chums.
It's totally a thing.

But anyway, my most expensive thing (excluding the obvious as I have noted above) would have to be my stand mixer :)
My husband got it for me for my birthday this year :)
Oh my gosh you guys, it's so expensive, but it's so amazing.
As I've mentioned before, I've been on a bit of a baking kick since last summer, and this mixer makes it so much easier.

I never realized how much you actually mix things when you bake!
I mean, obviously I was aware that there was a fair bit of mixing involved but it didn't occur to me until after I didn't have to mix them by hand anymore how much of baking is in fact combining* a bunch of shit together.
*Thought if I said "mix" again the internet would break.

It's awesome.
Seriously, if you're a baker you should really consider getting one.
And they come in all these adorable colors now! I know that shouldn't be the deciding note on buying something like this but it never hurts ;)

See you later ;)

Conversation Cookies :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

As I've mentioned before, I really enjoy making cupcakes for my co-workers (especially for special occasions ;) But for this heart shaped holiday, I decided to do something else...

Conversation Heart Cookies :)

They're basically just sugar cookies with colored powdered sugar glaze.
But instead of little flirtations ("Be Mine", "4evr", "I <3 U")
I wrote my co-workers names :)
This took me ALL NIGHT last night (which is why I never got around to posting in my photo challenge... oops :S )

It was my first time "decorating" with this sort of icing (I say that with emphasis because I've used it as a drizzle, not so much a solid frosting), so I wasn't super happy with the way they turned out.
I'll probably do these again and try to perfect it (OCD thing), and when I do I'll probably do a tutorial.

Oh, and I put them in little gusset bags and put little tags on them :)

I thought this would be a great adult valentine thing.
It probably wouldn't be best for kids at school because I imagine that some parents would be cautious about unsealed treats (like Halloween). But then again I guess since it's coming from a familiar kid and family and not some rando adult being a maniacal dick, it may be okay.

My coworkers loved them :)

30 Day Photo Challenge: Favorite Disney Character

Day 11:
a picture of your favorite Disney character

That would be Mulan ;)

When I was little, Mulan was always my favorite Disney "princess". Yes, I know, she's not actually royalty, but she's always grouped with all the princesses. All the other girls thought I was weird. "She's weird!", "She's not even that pretty!", or my favorite "She acts like a boy!"

First of all, uh, yeah she is that pretty, are you blind?
Second, yeah, she's a little awkward, but guess what? I'm awkward as shit and I'm awesome.
And as for her acting like a boy, that's the reason why I liked her so much.

She wasn't just acting like a boy for shits, she was doing it to protect her father. As a total daddy's girl (my dad is better than your dad), I totally get that.
And when she was a boy, she was kicking ass!

I just thought she was so cool.
She was tough, determined, smart, everything I wanted to grow up to be.
And yes, all the others are beautiful, but watching them as an adult shows me that they were really just there to be the damsel in distress. But Mulan is no damsel, she's a heroin.
If I ever have a daughter I hope that she sees past the vanity and favors the girl with spunk and character.

And oh my God, when the emperor of China bows to her, I lose it every time.

Who's your favorite? C'mon, you know you have one.

See you tomorrow :)

30 Day Photo Challenge: Guilty Pleasure

Day 10:
a picture of your worst guilty pleasure

As I've mentioned before, my friend Alyssa and I are doing this challenge together on Facebook.
Since the whole point is to see how we've changed in the last few years, we'll talk about some of our answers before we post them.

Today, she messaged me asking about my guilty pleasure (her's is that she watches the Numa Numa video on repeat when she's sad... how fucking cute is she?). I told her that mine was Pretty Little Liars, and she responded with: "Oh, lol that's not so guilty!".

Oh nay nay my sweet little Alyssa, it is very guilty.
And here's why:

Let's start with the fact that I watched the first season in 2 sittings.
I didn't even know what the show was when I started it, I just ran out of things to watch on Netflix. And BOOM. I was hooked.
I finished the second season even faster than the first; it was like I had a disease.
I wanted to scream when I found out I had to wait 8 months for season 3.

And like a disease, it was contagious.
I hooked my friend, who helped me hook our other friend, and now the three of us have a standing appointment to watch the new episodes every Wednesdays.

And I know what you're thinking,
"Kat, we've all experienced this magical addiction to shows on Netflix.
How is this a guilty pleasure?"

How about the fact that this show is aimed at teenage girls?
And I'm not talking "I'm 19, that's still technically a teen" girls, I'm talking "OMG! I'm 13 and officially a teen! The next few years are going to be awesome!" girls.
Seriously though.
This show is about a bunch of 16 year olds (they're supposed to be 17 now I think) and a shit ton of insanity that would NEVER happen in high school.

Please keep in mind that my friends and I are grown ass women.
And we aren't just fans, we're engrossed in this shit.
We took the damned Zimbio quiz to find out which characters we are.
I'm Spencer by the way ;) awesome.

But yeah, that's my guilty pleasure.
I'm a 23 year old married woman who loves watching a suspenseful teen show.
At least I don't swoon over the love interests. Not even once ;)

See you tomorrow!

Tunesday - OneRepublic

not quite humpday, but at least it's not Monday ;)

"Counting Stars" - OneRepublic

OneRepublic is one of those bands that I always enjoy and then forget about when I'm trying to remember my favorites. Total dick move on my part :/

Hope you like this one too :)
See you later!

30 Day Photo Challenge: Trading Places

Day 9:
a picture of someone you would like to trade places with for a day

**CONTAINS BUFFY SPOILERS**

I know, I know, I've already talked about my love for Buffy.
But the thing is, when I'm really really honest with myself, being Buffy Summers would be the SHIT.

Here's why:

She gets to hang out with Xander and Willow.

She gets to use a crossbow.

She gets to be with Angel.

Always looking amazing, even dressed for the 90s.

Super slayer kick ass skills.

Giles as a father figure.

Get's to have a crazy passionate relationship with Spike.

She makes puns even more awesome.

She never dies (for real anyways).

aaaaaand

She's got a BANGIN'  body.

Obviously I wouldn't want to be there when all the horribleness happens, especially when my favorite people die (the terror of loving characters in the Whedonverse).

But it is only for a day ;)

See you tomorrow!
